This year, Flat Branch’s non-profit, The Giving Branch, dedicated the month of November to honoring the stories of Veterans we have supported throughout 2022. The Giving Branch is proud to support Veteran non-profits, and we have supported 22 so far this year for a total of $30,500! This number rises as we receive more requests each month for organizations that support Veterans, active-duty military, and families of our service members.
Precious Legacy
One non-profit our Southern region worked with this month and want to highlight is The Precious Legacy:
The Precious Legacy’s mission is to create support and lifelong bonds by bringing together the aged-out surviving legacies of service members that have died for our Nation - under any circumstances. “The Precious Legacy” came from the realization that our precious young adults age out of other organizations at such a young age. They are often forgotten and left to heal on their own. Each young adult is striving to uphold their late service members legacy, and we want to help them do that.
Passageways
In addition to working with The Precious Legacy, we work with many other Veteran non-profits in other regions. In our Kansas City region, Rick and Sherri Rangel presented $5,000 to an organization called Passageways. Here is a brief overview of this impactful agency:
“Passageways, Ltd., and its Living Center provide a unique and unduplicated service to our community’s homeless military veterans (Heroes). While providing temporary housing, we focus on the holistic healing of our Heroes. We work within their abilities to overcome the hidden wounds of war while assisting them in becoming functioning citizens of the community. Within this focus, we are keenly aware of our Heroes’ medical and mental health challenges. Many, if not all of them, come to the Living Center already confronting various health issues. The first issue we address with a Hero is his internal being, including medical and mental health, spiritual health, as well as his economic situation. This approach enables our Heroes to realize their past mistakes do not define their current opportunities, nor do they decrease their probability of success.”
We are so grateful for all of your support so we can continue to make life-changing donations to Individuals and non-profits who support Veterans in our communities!
Welcome Home
Since the inception of The Giving Branch, we have partnered extensively with Welcome Home and supported their mission to help end Veteran homelessness. In 1992, a group of Vietnam Veterans refused to accept Veteran homelessness, so they invested their own money and opened the first shelter and Welcome Home was born. Below is their mission:
Welcome Home provides more than just shelter and professional services for Veterans. We provide a secure and stable community that Veterans and their families can call home while they get back on their feet. Our community is well-equipped with the critical resources and services necessary to offer both practical and emotional support to area Veterans. Through strong social networks and relationships, Welcome Home builds community and hope for today, inspiring change for the future. In 2021, Welcome Home served 342 Veterans & family members located throughout Missouri.
We look forward to continuing our relationship with Welcome Home and supporting their mission to serve Veteran’s in many ways and end Veteran homelessness!
We are so proud to be recognizing Veterans again this year through The Giving Branch and Flat Branch. We look forward to continuing to work with Veteran non-profits and active-duty military members and their families.
